I hope you have been enjoying your summer and the start of the interest rate decreases!
It has been a while since our last business update in May.
Since May, we have been busy on a few projects and preparing for our upcoming construction season. On the construction side, we recently completed a duplex conversion in Whitby. We’ve also begun a basement apartment renovation which is part of a larger project with multiple phases.
On the planning and permitting side, we’ve received approvals for three severances and have four submitted building permits for some new construction projects we will be starting shortly.
Lakeridge Health Moves Forward on Bowmanville Hospital Redevelopment!
For this month’s newsletter, we are pleased to share exciting developments related to the Bowmanville Hospital redevelopment, a project spearheaded by Lakeridge Health that is set to significantly enhance healthcare services in the Durham Region.
Lakeridge Health is excited to announce significant progress on the redevelopment of the Bowmanville Hospital, a project that aims to enhance healthcare services in the Durham Region. This vital initiative will nearly double the current hospital’s footprint, resulting in a modern facility designed to better meet the needs of a rapidly growing population.
Key Features of the Redevelopment
The planned upgrades include an expansion of critical care services, which will now reach Level 3 capability, the highest level of care available in hospitals for critically ill patients. Alongside this, the hospital will integrate state-of-the-art facilities, such as an Ambulatory Care Centre and a Hemodialysis Centre, catering to a diverse range of healthcare needs.
Progress and Future Plans
The construction phase is anticipated to begin in 2025, with the first facilities scheduled to open in 2027. The Bowmanville Hospital Foundation is spearheading a fundraising campaign known as “We Care, We Can,” aiming to raise the community’s share of $110.4 million for the project — a significant undertaking highlighting the community’s dedication to improving local healthcare infrastructure.
Why does this matter?
Improvements in infrastructure and services are key pieces to consider when density increases. Existing residents often see a strain on current resources as a primary concern when opposing new developments. Bowmanville is no different, with the first high-rise developments being planned on Highway 2 having this as one of the main concerns brought up about their project.
Most cities and municipalities plan well in advance for density and population targets and create multi-year plans how best to improve services and improve infrastructure. Bowmanville’s downtown is expecting significant growth in the foreseeable future, which is why we have been seeing infrastructure and service improvements coming to the area.
Knowing that your municipality is investing heavily and improving an area is a green light for others who want to come in and invest in the community. This is one of the reasons why we like Bowmanville
